GRAIN-PERFECT® STAIN BASE
has the same product components as

GRAIN-PERFECT®Stain with the exception of
the pigment. When Stain Base is mixed into the
stains, the concentration of the color is reduced.
O-JTinting colors or HuIs 866 Colorants may
also be blended intoGRAIN-PERFECT®
STAIN BASE to create an unlimited variety of
colors. Once the colors are made, treat the mixture
as any otherGRAIN-PERFECT®Stain. More
colors, especially deeper colors, may be obtained
by applyingSTARNGR ORSTARPremium
Penetrating NGR stain to the wood before the
GRAIN-PERFECT®Stain.

Suggested areas of use:
Interior direct to wood applications such as
furniture, kitchen and bath cabinets and millwork.

Directions:
1.Finish-sand the substrate with 120-180 grit
sandpaper. Wood should be dust free with
moisture content between 68%.
2.Stir thoroughly before using and continuously
agitate while in use to insure product consistency
from start to finish. The color selected should be
pre-tested on the wood to be finished under
application conditions.
3.Apply by spraying, dipping, wiping or
brushing. Wiping after application helps insure
uniform staining. Wiping of the product is
recommended within a few minutes of
application. Longer flash times result in a
stronger, darker color. Species of wood, sanding
and moisture content affect the strength and color
of a stain.

4.Air dry to seal in 30 minutes at 77 degrees
Fahrenheit, 45% relative humidity and good air
movement or oven dry, 5-10 minutes at 125
degrees Fahrenheit with good air movement
before sealing.
5. Topcoatwith anySTARSealer or Topcoat
(except Butyrate lacquers). Follow the relevant
instructions for the topcoat.

Using GRAIN-PERFECT® Stain Base as a
Pre-Stain or Conditioner:
By applying theGRAIN-PERFECT® STAIN
BASEto bare wood prior to staining, you will
achieve a more uniform wood color minimizing
or eliminating the unevenness or blotchy spots
that usually result when staining soft woods.
TheGRAIN-PERFECT®STAIN BASE is
especially formulated to soak down into the
porous areas of bare wood. The pre-stained
surface will take stain in a more uniform manner.
1. Apply by spray, brush or cloth;
wetting the entire surface.
2. Wipe off excess with a dry cloth.
3. Follow by staining with your choice of
GRAIN-PERFECT® STAIN
orSTARPenetrating Stain any point
in time after pre-staining.
Note: The color will be somewhat
lighter when using a pre-stain product.

Safety And Storage Precautions:
NON-PHOTOCHEMICALLY REACTIVE.
Contains:Petroleum distillates.

DIZZINESS, HEADACHE OR NAUSEA.
CAUSES EYE, SKIN, NOSE AND THROAT
IRRITATION. MAY BE HARMFUL IF
ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN.
Notice:Reports have associated repeated and
prolonged occupational overexposure to solvents
with permanent brain and nervous system
damage. Intentional misuse by deliberately
concentrating and inhaling contents may be
harmful or fatal. Keep away from heat, sparks and
flame. Vapors may cause flash fire. Do not smoke.
Extinguish all flames and pilot lights, and turn off
stoves, heaters, electric motors and other sources
of ignition during use and until all vapors are
gone. Prevent build-up of vapors by opening all
windows and doors to achieve cross-ventilation.

Use only with adequate ventilation.
Do not breathe vapors or spray mists.
Ensure fresh air entry during
application and drying.
If you experience eye watering, headache or
dizziness or if air monitoring demonstrates
vapor/mist levels are above applicable limits.
Wear an appropriate properly fitted resporator
(NOISH/MSHA approved) during and after
application. Follow respirator manufacturer's
directions for respirator use.
Close container after each use.
Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.

First Aid:
If swallowed, do not induce vomiting.
Call physician immediately. If you experience
difficulty in breathing, leave area to obtain fresh
air. If continued difficulty is experienced, get
medical assistance immediately. In case of eye
contact, flush immediately with plenty of water
for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention;
for skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water.
If spilled, contain spilled material and remove
with inert absorbent. Dispose of contaminated
absorbent, container and unused contents in
accordance with local, state and federal
regulations.

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

RAGS OR OTHER MATERIALS CONTAINING
THIS PRODUCT MAY OXIDIZE AND IGNITE.
All contaminated materials should be
immersed in water immediately to avoid
spontaneous combustion. Iron oxide
pigments may accelerate this process.
